En qué consiste el trabajo de un audioprotesista

Hearing care professionals are health professionals who treat people whose hearing is impaired. Professionally, they are equated with opticians and are the only ones authorized to make adjustments to hearing aids.

How can an audiologist help you?

Although it is true that foresight is the best way to avoid possible future hearing problems, the audiologist is the person in charge of reviewing the patient's hearing, in order to determine their hearing ability, through a test called Audimetry, which has the task of detecting any symptoms of hearing loss, or determine the level of hearing loss.

In order to carry out an audiometry, as much information as possible about the patient's state of health is first collected and the moments in which the patient loses hearing are analysed. An otoscope is then used to look inside the ear canal and eardrum, and then into a cabin.

What are hearing tests like?

Inside this booth, the patient wears headphones with loudspeakers to study air conduction, that is, the transmission of sound normally through the auditory system, and then place them behind the ear (resting on the bone) to analyze bone conduction, through different beeps or words that the patient must repeat to check if he has a good understanding of the words.

The test is usually not uncomfortable or painful unless there is a serious condition, in which case dizziness or headache may occur.

Once these tests have been carried out and the diagnosis has been made, if it is determined that the patient needs a hearing aid, the audiologist is responsible for adjusting them, as well as monitoring the patient and the evolution of their hearing.

In short, the audiologist is the professional in charge of diagnosing hearing problems, providing solutions and advice on the product or hearing aid that best fits the needs, and carrying out the maintenance of it.
