Phonak introduces EON, a new hearing aid platform that evolves its Sphere technology with improvements in speech understanding, automatic environmental adaptation, battery life, size, and connectivity.

Its goal is to provide a more comfortable hearing experience in particularly demanding situations, such as conversations in noisy environments, meetings, restaurants, or outdoor settings.

Smaller, lighter, and more efficient

One of the most notable new features of Phonak EON Sphere is its design. The new model is approximately 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the previous Sphere generation.

The new Hypersonic chip enables real-time artificial intelligence processing with greater energy efficiency. Phonak claims up to 38 hours of battery life, although actual battery life will depend on usage, streaming, hearing loss, and other factors.

The range is completed by Audéo EON R, for mild to profound hearing loss, and CROS EON R, designed for people with residual hearing or no hearing in one ear.

Artificial intelligence to improve speech understanding

EON incorporates Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0, a technology based on deep neural networks that analyzes the acoustic environment and works to separate speech from background noise.

Phonak reports improvements of up to 10 dB in the signal-to-noise ratio in certain situations. In addition, the so-called Sphere Mode is available in the Premium 90, Advanced 70, and Standard 50 technology levels.

The platform also incorporates AutoSense OS AI 8.0, which continuously analyzes the environment and automatically adjusts the hearing aid’s operation. This means users do not need to manually change programs every time the listening situation changes.

Improved performance in windy conditions

Another new feature is WindBlock 2.0, available across all EON technology levels.

The system uses information from both microphones to identify which one is less affected by wind and prioritize that signal. According to Phonak, it can considerably reduce wind noise and improve the signal-to-noise ratio under certain conditions.

This can be particularly interesting for people who regularly use their hearing aids outdoors.

Auracast: new connectivity possibilities

Phonak EON incorporates Auracast, the audio broadcasting technology based on Bluetooth LE Audio.

In compatible venues, it will allow users to receive audio broadcasts directly from places such as theaters, airports, museums, conference rooms, or stadiums.

In addition, EON retains Bluetooth and RogerDirect connectivity, as well as hands-free calls and video calls.

Who might benefit from Phonak EON?

EON may be an option worth considering, particularly for people looking to improve their hearing experience in complex listening situations and who regularly use connectivity features.

It may be particularly interesting if:

  • You find it difficult to follow conversations when there is background noise.
  • You regularly take part in meetings or social gatherings.
  • You use a mobile phone, television, or other Bluetooth devices.
  • You are looking for a rechargeable hearing aid with good battery life.
  • Wind noise is bothersome when you are outdoors.
  • You want access to connectivity technologies such as Auracast.

As with any hearing aid, its features and performance should be assessed according to each person’s hearing loss and individual needs. Proper fitting and follow-up by a hearing care professional are essential to make the most of the technology.

Phonak EON: the evolution of Sphere technology

Rather than being a completely new technology, Phonak EON represents an evolution of the Sphere platform. It maintains its artificial intelligence-based approach to improving speech understanding while adding significant improvements in size, power consumption, automation, wind performance, and connectivity.

Its main new features include:

  • 25% smaller size and 20% lighter weight.
  • Up to 38 hours of battery life.
  • Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0.
  • AutoSense OS AI 8.0.
  • WindBlock 2.0.
  • Auracast compatibility.
  • Bluetooth and RogerDirect.
